Sophie Barnes is a writer/director, actor, producer, art director, costumer and hair & makeup artist residing in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Sophie’s films have been exhibited in film festivals in both North America and Europe. Her MFA Thesis film PARTNERS held its World Premiere at the opening night of Love Fight Club during Wiener Festwochen in Vienna, Austria. It will hold its North American Premiere at Reeling: The Chicago LGBTQ+ International Film Festival in September 2026.

Her short film MOONSPEAK premiered at Filmland: Arkansas in Little Rock, Arkansas (2024), and screened at Persistence of Vision International Film Festival in Hot Springs, Arkansas (2025). Her short film LIMBO premiered at Filmland: Arkansas’s Showcase (2025). Her short film MUSING A SISTERPLACE won Best Experimental at University of Central Arkansas Film Festival (2020).

Sophie received a BA in Film from University of Central Arkansas in 2020 and and then an MFA in Film from Univesrity of Central Arkansas in 2025. She served as an adjunct professor in the Department of Film, Theatre, and Creative Writing at the University of Central Arkansas in the 2024-2025 school year.

In addition to directing, Sophie has served as production designer or art director on numerous feature and short films since 2019, as well as in various roles in costume, art and hair & makeup departments on shorts and features since 2016.
